Diet & Nutrition

clean-eating-diet-free-2It is said that somewhere between 70 – 80 % of weight loss is diet.  Let’s split the difference and call it 75%. Do you still need me? For sure!

You can lose weight with diet alone, but exercise is an important component. Without it, only a portion of your weight loss is from fat — you’re also stripping away muscle and bone density. Since working out stimulates growth of those metabolic tissues, losing weight through exercise means you’re burning mostly fat. The number on the scale may not sound as impressive, but because muscle takes up less space than fat does, you look smaller and your clothes fit better. Beyond burning fat, people shouldn’t forget that exercise can have other impressive health perks, like improving the quality of your sleep, lowering your cholesterol and reducing your stress levels.

Remember – while diet and exercise are both important for long-term weight loss, remember this:You can’t out-exercise a bad diet”.

If you think you need to go on a diet you are doomed to fail.   Diets are temporary.   You need to make lifestyle changes.  Changes that you are going to stick to and just become who you are now and how you feel about food.

I promote a clean eating. What does that mean?

  • Choose whole, natural foods & eliminate or minimise processed foods.
  • Choose unrefined over refined foods.
  • Include some protein, carbohydrate & good fat at every meal.
  • Watch out for the bad fats, salt & sugar.
  • Eat 5 – 6 meals throughout the day.
  • Don’t drink your calories.

I LoVE lOvE Paleo cooking, as it is sugar & gluten free.

I’ve done intermittent fasting and the 5:2 Diet and can see the merits and benefits in these both.  Not just for weight/fat loss but for their other health benefits.  Google Michael Mosley for more about that.  Click here for a Youtube link to a very informative video discussing this subject..
